Estimated 350,000 cocaine users, highest ever – MHLW survey reveals the spread of the drug.




It was revealed on the 2nd that according to a 2025 national survey by a Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare research group, 0.4% of people aged 15-64 have used cocaine, which is estimated to be about 350,000 people. This is the highest number since the current survey method was adopted in 2007. The number of cocaine-related cases seized by police in 2025 was also the highest on record, once again highlighting the fact that it is spreading nationwide. Additionally, cannabis had the highest number of abusers, with an estimated 1.41 million (1.6%).
