Around 9:00 PM on the 28th, a 16-year-old female student from Munakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, who was in a wheelchair, was struck by a local train (9 cars) traveling from Hainuzuka to Hakata at the Heiwa-cho No. 2 railroad crossing (equipped with alarms and barriers) near JR Takeshita Station in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City. According to the Hakata Police Station, the student suffered injuries including a broken right elbow, but her life is not in danger.
According to the report, the train driver noticed her about 150 meters before the crossing and applied the emergency brakes, but was unable to stop in time, striking the right side of the wheelchair. The accident occurred between JR Kagoshima Line’s Hakata and Takeshita stations, about 500 meters northwest of Takeshita Station. The crossing is approximately 30 meters long, and it appears the student was just about to finish crossing it.
