While I was away on a 2-week business trip, my wife sold my entire collection on Mercari and Second Street. I’m crying so hard.
2 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:55:55 ID:at9a
I couldn’t sleep at all. Crying.
3 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:56:00 ID:at9a
So sad.
4 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:56:09 ID:9LAR
Quit lying.
5 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:56:28 ID:at9a
>>4
I wish this sad situation was just a lie. Crying.
6 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:56:37 ID:675A
What kind of collection is it?
>>6
It might be boring, but it was sneakers and clothes.
12 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:28 ID:675A
>>7
Some sneakers are super expensive, though.
That’s messed up.
15 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:49 ID:at9a
>>12
The selling prices were actually pretty reasonable.
9 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:08 ID:nz9v
I was about to guess sneakers, and I was right.
10 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:21 ID:nj4T
Sneakers, that’s rough.
11 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:23 ID:08ix
You can actually press charges for that.
13 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:29 ID:at9a
There weren’t that many, but I collected them with so much effort. Crying.
14 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:42 ID:Qd5I
Don’t sneakers just fall apart due to aging anyway?
18 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:58:16 ID:at9a
>>14
Well, they eventually fall apart, but I maintain them so they should last a long time.
16 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:57:57 ID:675A
You should sell your wife’s clothes to Second Street, too.
17 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:58:02 ID:4nvt
As retaliation, go sell her favorite underwear to a used panty shop.
19 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:58:33 ID:nz9v
Did she need the money for something? Or just because?
22 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:58:53 ID:at9a
>>19
We aren’t in financial trouble. The reason isn’t money.
25 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:59:20 ID:nz9v
>>22
Then that’s just harassment. That’s low.
31 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:00:09 ID:at9a
>>25
It’s not exactly harassment, she really thought they were just unnecessary junk. She sold my sneakers and clothes along with some Karimoku furniture.
42 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:01:53 ID:nz9v
>>31
Even if you’re spouses, selling someone else’s stuff without asking is insane.
26 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:59:20 ID:nEGJ
To be honest, it depends on the volume.
If the room was so cluttered that it was impossible to move, I can see where she’s coming from.
34 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:00:27 ID:at9a
>>26
They were all contained within my own room.
28 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 06:59:47 ID:Qd5I
Homes where you can keep your collection vs. homes where it gets sold off without permission.
I wonder what the difference is.

This reminds me of the train model story.
Regarding collections, I was in the position of having thrown away my husband’s collection and regretted it.
It was train models.
There was a huge amount of quite old models (he even laid tracks and used an entire room for them).
From about the second year of marriage, I kept telling him, “Sell these, there’s so many,” but he would just mumble and never do anything about it. I snapped, and while he was out, I called a dealer to take whatever they could.
When my husband returned, he apologized, saying, “You can do what you want with the money from the sale” and “I’m sorry for being a nuisance until now.”
He even got rid of the remaining models himself, so I was really happy.
But after that, he started throwing away everything he owned, starting with his books.
He stopped owning anything other than the suits, shirts, and underwear he wore for work. Now, all his belongings fit into two storage bins…
It’s gone too far and I’m worried. I tell him he can buy various things, but he won’t buy anything other than daily consumables, and I’m the one who feels terrible about it now.
I’m so afraid that with so little left of his, he might just suddenly vanish one day.
What should I do in a situation like this?

This is the same as a mom throwing away Mini 4WD cars without asking, even if they play with Sylvanian Families together. It’s a problem of empathy; it’s easy to be happy when someone likes what you like, but it breeds hostility when someone is obsessed with something you find incomprehensible.
44 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:02:09 ID:at9a
It was my fault too. Since she said she was going to sell the furniture, I told her, “While you’re at it, sell the stuff I don’t need.” I never imagined she’d label my collection as ‘unnecessary stuff’…
50 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:03:39 ID:RHHD
>>44
Well, that’s just a lack of communication.
51 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:03:53 ID:1Sis
Seeing someone’s misfortune on a Saturday morning makes me feel good.
52 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:03:54 ID:dvv5
You’re married and you haven’t told her about your hobbies?
57 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:05:22 ID:at9a
>>52
Hmm, she should have known I liked them since we were dating, but it seems she didn’t realize they were valuable items you can’t get back once sold.
63 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:06:34 ID:nz9v
What was the total value?
68 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:07:59 ID:at9a
>>63
Purchase price? Probably around 3 million yen total. Regardless of the money, there were things like Adidas shoes signed by Messi, so I can never get them back. Crying.

>>68
Selling that much stuff off… yeah, that’s still weird. Usually, you confirm first.
64 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:06:44 ID:lC0o
This is likely bait since you’re posting this here.
66 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:07:31 ID:zLWb
Selling your husband’s precious things without asking… are you even loved? People don’t usually do that.
70 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:09:37 ID:at9a
They’re valuable to me because of the memories attached, so it’s not like they were all super expensive items.
77 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:12:47 ID:at9a
Even so, I still love my wife.
82 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:13:37 ID:zLWb
If you told your husband it’s precious, unless she’s a total idiot, she wouldn’t sell it without permission. Maybe she’s dissatisfied with you?
96 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:16:42 ID:at9a
The reason I posted this is just to vent and move on. Thanks for listening.
100 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:17:27 ID:jRlr
Well, if you don’t wear the shoes, they get labeled as useless.
102 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:18:06 ID:at9a
>>100
Exactly. To someone who isn’t a collector, they’re just shoes. I forgot that…
105 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:20:01 ID:at9a
Messi-signed sneakers, a Michael Jordan charity event T-shirt… there was so much stuff…
107 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:20:37 ID:Q7HU
Is Mercari really that easy to sell things on quickly?
108 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:20:56 ID:at9a
>>107
People who know, know. It sold out instantly. Crying.
114 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:23:10 ID:nz9v
How many years have you been married?
119 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:23:59 ID:at9a
>>114
Four years.
123 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:24:49 ID:at9a
By the way, my wife really didn’t know, and she apologized profusely. I have no intention of blaming her.
124 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:25:01 ID:dsAG
Glad I didn’t get married.
134 Name: Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Date: 26/07/04(Sat) 07:27:42 ID:nz9v
At least keep them in a closet. You probably left them in a place that looked in the way, so she assumed you didn’t need them.
