Last month, a fire that completely destroyed the main hall of a temple in Imari City, Saga Prefecture, led to the arrest of a 28-year-old monk apprentice living at the temple on suspicion of arson.
The suspect, Eikichi Mori (28), was arrested on suspicion of arson of an inhabited building.
Mori is suspected of burning down the main hall and the living quarters (kuri) where the chief priest and other monks reside at Entsu-ji Temple in Matsushima-cho, Imari City, early on the morning of the 30th of last month.
