Game: “Wait, why? It’s fun!”
Me: “I can’t finish all of it.”
That’s the reality.

Talking about Tears of the Kingdom?

Honestly, open worlds aren’t even that fun.

I get bored of them easily.6 Name:Unknown Japuzz Watcher[] Posted: 26/05/28(Thu) 06:35:50 ID:FrKD
They’re so open-ended that I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do.

When I play games, I want a story and I want to see the characters’ journeys, including the protagonist’s.
I’m not looking to simulate living inside the game world.
Being left completely on your own in the name of “freedom” makes it hard to set goals, so my motivation drops.

Not every game needs to be open world.
It depends on the genre.

I get it.
I don’t really craft that much.
It’s fun at first, then it turns into “this is kind of a hassle…”

I don’t like open worlds because towns often end up feeling like cardboard sets.
You can’t talk to everyone, and there are tons of buildings you can’t enter.
Pokémon Scarlet/Violet and Dragon Quest XI were exactly like that, and it was disappointing.

I totally get that.
RPGs are the last genre that needs to be open world.

Both of those feel kind of off because they design maps with the same mindset they had when making 2D games.

I hate townspeople who only say “Hi!” and nothing else.

Reality is the ultimate open world.

The kind of freedom I want is having multiple ways to solve a clearly defined objective. When even the objective itself is completely up to me, it just gets exhausting.

The range of ways you can enjoy a game depends on your intelligence.
People who like endlessly repeating the same assigned task probably aren’t suited for open worlds or crafting systems.

MMORPG: “Just press here and it’ll auto-play for you lol”
What’s even fun about that?

Modern games talk so much that I can’t read at my own pace anymore.
And then they let you skip cutscenes anyway.
If you know cutscenes are annoying, why make them in the first place? lol

People who can actually play Minecraft for hundreds of hours are amazing.

The point isn’t that open worlds are fun by themselves. What’s important is what kinds of gameplay experiences the developers provide within that huge space.

“It’s super open-ended! Now go do this event, this event, and this event too! They’re all fun!”
That’s way too restrictive.

Yeah, sometimes I just want them to let me play however I want.

The less capable someone is of thinking for themselves, the more suitable games with automatic tasks tend to be.
People with stronger problem-solving skills often prefer games with more freedom.
