Retailer: “Those complaining about disc abolition are just beggars wanting cheap used games. It’s the same trend as when feature phones turned into smartphones.”

Regarding Sony’s talk of getting rid of physical packages and going to downloads:
In the end, most of the people making noise about this just want to buy games cheap used or sell them high while they still have value—I think that’s the real intention.
I can understand it to some extent, but Sony is looking toward the future even if they know this demographic will rebel or leave. They are moving to cut it off, and it can’t be helped.
It is inevitable that digital downloads will spread even further from here on.
Packages carry inventory risks and sales losses due to being out of stock, which downloads can avoid.
Currently, demand for rentals is also shifting from physical to downloads and streaming.
That’s why rental stores like GEO are in decline.
Music CDs are also moving toward downloads and subscription services, right?
Large companies have to keep up with the changes of the era, so this decision is just a sign of the times and can’t be helped.
I actually think there will be fewer people opposing it by 2028 when it becomes download-only.
People made a fuss when we transitioned from feature phones to smartphones, but they were eventually weeded out.
It’s a transitional period, so there are various opinions, but you have no choice but to adapt to the times.
Also, some people object to 18+ games being credit card only, but it’s rare nowadays to not own a credit card. Since it’s how the world works, if you want to use the service, please give up and just get one.
Subscriptions and such require credit cards, and it’s certain that credit cards and e-money will be the mainstream moving forward.
Even now, using cards or e-money is actually cheaper than cash.

Setting aside whether the statement is good or bad, I could understand if the manufacturer were saying this.
But it’s strange for a retailer who makes money from used sales to say this.
How are you going to make a profit?
How are you going to secure the budget for new arrivals?
Or are you running your shop as a volunteer?
2: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:ewxOgxjX0
The people being cut off are the ones retweeting this, lol.
3: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:pJ0FHY6y0
The shift from feature phones to smartphones was a hardware transition, so isn’t it unrelated to this?
The mechanism of mobile games vs smartphone games hasn’t really changed much anyway.
5: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:Z4x412MR0
Don’t the people with money just buy PCs?
7: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:aNkV7ZyT0
Just as many things disappeared along with feature phones, PlayStation will disappear along with the discs.
8: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:tn1NXHk90
Don’t you understand that the ones Sony is trying to cut off aren’t the customers who want packages, but the “shops” that want to sell packages?
Why is the shop side supporting this?
12: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:ewxOgxjX0
>>8
Because instead of supporting products that actually sell,
they support their abusive boyfriend, Sony.
9: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:eSnNKrcu0
Just let them say whatever they want.
If they abolish discs, PlayStation will decline even more than it is now.
11: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:MFIPXQjhd
In terms of entertainment, PlayStation is the feature phone side, right?
13: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:aVtVJNnO0
Wouldn’t it be better for this crazy shop to think about their own job instead of the future of PlayStation?
15: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:qz+T+Q9g0
I don’t understand at all how this aligns with the transition from feature phones to smartphones.
20: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:K5482C/V0
Is this idiot developing their own theory again that users who buy physical editions only do so to resell them?
Change your way of thinking that just because you do it, everyone else definitely does too.
21: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:ewxOgxjX0
It’s hilarious that they’re becoming a Nintendo shop, Happiness.
24: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:HdalTe1W0
There’s a well-known phenomenon on the net where even people with pretty extreme ideologies say reasonable things when it comes to their own field of expertise, but I guess this guy is the exception.
27: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:RrvsXu4l0
Aren’t used games the most important part of a game shop?
28: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:Y/zTW0pS0
What are you going to do about the internet connection for downloading?
29: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:8iOY7QpU0
Are kids with small allowances “beggars” then?
34: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:hBI8ZkKa0
This guy is steadily becoming an alternate account.
35: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:FL6UcUbI0
It’s hilarious that a retailer is saying this; it’s incomprehensible.
36: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:VsZ4xKEv0
If game companies make more profit from download-only sales, and that allows them to spend more money on game development, isn’t that a good thing?
56: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:8iOY7QpU0
>>36
They already had the freedom not to release physical versions, so they should’ve just not released them on physical if they didn’t want to.
37: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:jPUETGba0
It’s cheaper and better to buy from flea market apps than at a game shop, right?
38: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:wMGK8DTt0
Don’t they realize they have no choice but to handle hardware that doesn’t yield a decent profit?
39: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:7OaNNpkP0
The only people left on PS5 now are those kinds of people, lol. If they had money, they’d have bought a PC.
42: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:r5DFJ9He0
So that’s how you viewed your customers.
44: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:BiEBio930
Hey boys, stop messing around with Nariyuki-kun.
46: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:ZqLMzoAE0
An unknown retailer like Nariyuki is the one who gets hurt the most, so why are they defending this? They aren’t even running a game shop anymore, are they?
48: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:S1lJjQf90
Because he’s just a store manager who doesn’t take responsibility for the business.
50: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:7OaNNpkP0
Unless it’s a major chain, it’s basically a used goods store.
54: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:VwoweB2q0
He defended such nonsense and sales slowed down, so that’s why it turned into a pseudo-card game shop, right, lol? Get consoled by Persona-mau, lol.
55: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:3dcrAdV+0
I never thought a retailer would side with a first-party that only benefits them, rather than the users or customers.
57: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:3dcrAdV+0
This shop is basically saying that even if they go under, it’s fine as long as the first-party makes money.
58: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:S1lJjQf90
Yukinari wouldn’t think about his shop’s profits anyway. He doesn’t even keep track of them.
59: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:oCTeltrj0
Expert Kai-Kai: “Key cards are the same as paper scraps! Nintendo has already abolished physical packages!”
The PS cult is amazing.
65: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:pPVDjRr00
>>59
But key cards can be lent out and resold, you know.
PelaStation is worse than a key card shop.
60: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:DBJ6/0hD0
It’s hilarious how customers and users are being forced to shoulder the burden.
64: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:sG5ikJID0
>>60
Were Xbox users being forced to shoulder a burden?
61: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:PHAhL/WYH
It’s over~
71: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:k4r+9x/e0
He’s a retailer, right? lol
73: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:FL6UcUbI0
It’s hilarious how “Xbox-ga” (but what about Xbox) is meaningless in this flow.
This isn’t the time to be deflecting the conversation, is it? lol
The retailer is even making enemies of the users who would still buy packages used. lol
75: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:TC4R67fU0
Well, it’s probably a story an imaginary retailer can’t understand, so it must be nice to be so carefree.
77: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:pPVDjRr00
Calling the customers who are supposed to be supporting them the most—the used game buyers—beggars.
Strange, isn’t it…?
78: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:FL6UcUbI0
Back when the PS5 digital-only version was announced, he kept embarrassing himself with talk about reservations, but this guy has already left the game industry, right?

I wonder if he was even just a store clerk to begin with.

Introducing a store where you can buy Japanese clothing.
