I guess Sony decided to phase out discs because so many people feel the same way.

You guys only ever buy PlayStation games when they’re on sale or for microtransactions, right?
The problem is that you guys don’t buy games at full price.
3: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:SQHcedJA0
That’s just Sakurai’s opinion, right?
4: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:V4BR41dC0
Well, for someone like him who owns thousands of physical cartridges and discs, he’s probably reached the limit of storage space, so it’s inevitable.
6: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:WcrXkppp0
Sakurai, come to PlayStation.
7: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:V4BR41dC0
He already has games on PlayStation, though.
9: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:xfFkrXoW0
This guy’s actions don’t match his words.
10: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:awPKPhnX0
I’m a digital-only guy too, but it seems PlayStation users prefer physical copies so they can buy and sell used games.
11: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:KQLEie5VM
Same here, but if you buy games at his level, the hassle of swapping discs is just too high.
He’s an extreme outlier, so he’s not a good example for the average user. I’m sure he knows that too.
12: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:GXfDUTQu0
I switched to digital-only after my original PS4 had that disc-ejection glitch where it would eject the disc mid-game.
Because of that, I don’t really care if physical discs disappear. If it hadn’t been for that glitch, I might still be a physical-copy diehard and throwing a fit right now, so I’m actually grateful for the glitch.

I started avoiding original-model consoles after that too. Now that Japanese games are available on PC, I only play on PC.
15: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:skPc/3K50
Meanwhile, thousands of foreigners are absolutely furious.
19: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:s+2bkNyF0
Anyone who talks about this without distinguishing between ROMs and optical media is an idiot. ^ ^
20: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:skPc/3K50
You can only really call yourself a “digital-only person” if…
There was an alternative in the first place.
23: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:N1osLcnY0
The more you actually play games, the more you tend to be a digital-only person, right?
26: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:EMCSBRkV0
I buy games I play every day like Animal Crossing digitally, and everything else physically.
Some of them turn into collector’s items later on, after all.
27: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:zLutmiqU0
In Sakurai’s case, maybe he just hates wasting time swapping physical media.
29: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:3S6XCurD0
If Sakurai had a collector’s mindset, he’d be buying everything as physical copies, right?
30: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:BCnHm24w0
Swapping media is a pain.
That’s why I’m digital-only.
The Switch and Switch 2 don’t have much internal storage, so I’d love an external HDD.
I don’t even need to be able to launch games directly from it, just use it as a warehouse.
31: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:/5+/f0sg0
Wait, wasn’t this guy in a crazy situation because he owned too many physical games?
34: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:N11dVNT00
He’s a guy who embodies “time is money.”
Using him as a benchmark for the average user is probably a bit off. (Not saying digital-only users aren’t normal).
36: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:kMpL0A2N0
Well, it seems like there are a lot of digital-only people. I’m one of them.
But the question is, what does that look like in the market as a whole?
We often see patterns where a game sells so well digitally that they start selling physical copies too, which means there’s enough value to justify the cost of doing so.
42: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:DWcbnQGXd
Taking the pinnacle of a collector/enthusiast as an example makes it look like it’s super niche.
43: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:ckJ2fvti0
This is the normal perspective.
You shouldn’t cater to a noisy minority.
44: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:VmiykwZl0
I mean, usually, the games I want aren’t sold in stores anyway, and even old games at shops are expensive, whereas digital sales are cheaper.
46: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:TZj1pzss0
Some people just have a knee-jerk reaction based on vague, biased imagery.
It’s like the people who couldn’t get on the bandwagon for cashless payments, the same type of people criticizing this.
50: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:MhqyxAlW0
Personally, I’m digital and subscription-based, so it doesn’t really affect me.
In the sense that users are losing options, it’s not a great feeling. But if it’s for collection purposes, I feel like Switch physical copies will be fine for at least 10 years, so I don’t really worry about it. I’m not a collector, though, just my personal take.
54: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:VQPBBoT9M
“Famitsu is unreliable!!”
If that’s the case, shouldn’t you bring some reliable data first?
57: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:VgvEYB4d0
I mean, it’s a fact that console hardware makers—Nintendo, MS, and SIE—are all moving to eliminate physical media, so Sakurai couldn’t publicly denounce digital sales even if he wanted to… He’s as slick as ever. lol
58: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:IIm0oi9f0
Nobody asked you, scum.
60: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:Jcc0u/n20
Maybe he deletes them as soon as he’s done?
Even with a Switch 2, the SD card will fill up instantly.
65: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:I4Kj5ezG0
>>60
I think it’s rare to keep games installed forever, whether on PC or PlayStation.
62: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:5mw6M6Ij0
Sakurai-san, let’s make a game on PS5.
63: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:I4Kj5ezG0
Nintendo bothers to make game cards, and Sony won’t stop with the paper inserts.
It really shows how important the physical market is.
68: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:OWkV0TdP0
Should we really put Sakurai and the general public in the same boat?
He’s a rare person who buys multiple consoles just for backup storage.
74: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:kdTZyofKH
Are you stupid?
Are you an idiot?
75: Unknown Japuzz Watcher ID:7TupVXKU0
Don’t lie. You were collecting games at a level that could only be described as insane.
Introducing a store where you can buy Japanese clothing.
